2011 Jeep Patriot

Jeep set the bar high with the new Grand Cherokee and updated Wrangler. Both boast interiors so nice as to be unrecognizable to those accustomed to the brand’s trucks from just a few years ago. Next up is Jeep’s little Patriot, which gets visual tweaks inside and out, as well as some equipment upgrades, for 2011.

Exterior changes are slight, highlighted by new front and rear fascias. There are new 17-inch wheels and four additional colors. The interior resembles the updated Wrangler’s, with Jeep’s modern three-spoke steering wheel that can host controls for audio, cruise (now standard on all trims), and Bluetooth. Soft-touch materials and padded surfaces grace the door panels, and there’s a new center armrest design and revised cloth upholstery.

The suspension has been thoroughly overhauled for 2011, with firmer springs and shock absorbers, a thicker rear anti-roll bar, and a one-inch ride-height loft for four-wheel-drive models. Power-steering assist also has been retuned. The powertrain lineup is unchanged, which means a choice of 2.0- and 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines, a five-speed manual or continuously variable automatic transmission, and front- or four-wheel drive.

Pricing for the 2011 Patriot has not yet been set, but a Chrysler spokesperson tells us to expect “a surprising amount of content at a good value.” We take that to mean base prices won’t deviate too far from last year’s range of $15,995 to $25,180. The new Patriot will arrive in Jeep dealerships by the end of 2010.
