2013 Chevy Malibu will be revealed at the 2011 New York and Shanghai Auto Shows. Chevy sold 198,770 Malibu sedans in 2010, the new Malibu will be a nice looking piece of sheetmetal.

From the photos, the 2013 Chevy Malibu is a handsome sedan which mercifully doesn’t share a single line with previous models. The new Malibu is Chevrolet’s first midsize car to be sold globally. It will be sold in nearly 100 countries on six continents and built in multiple locations, including China and two facilities in the United States.

Chevy Malibu mercifully doesn’t share a single line with previous models. It appears to be inspired by the design of the Camaro, at least that’s what the taillight in the picture above suggests. It will equiped with a range of four-cylinder engines, likely the 2.4-liter and turbocharged 2.0-liter units used in an array of General Motors products, including the Buick Regal. The new Malibu is Chevrolet’s first midsize car to be sold globally. Malibu has been transformed from a rear-wheel-drive car with V-8 to front-wheel drive and V-6 and four-cylinder engines. The Malibu also was briefly offered as a mild hybrid, with some retail sales in 2009 and to fleets only in 2010. Now in the new model, GM says the Malibu will put an emphasis on fuel economy with a range of four-cylinder engines and six-speed transmissions. A GM spokesman says no V-6 powertrain will be offered in the new Malibu.

More than 600,000 Malibu cars have been sold globally since 2008, The 2013 Malibu represents the eighth generation of the nameplate.
