Nissan has unveiled Esflow Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The Nissan Esflow Concept uses driveline similar toNissan Leaf. It is an electric sports car, but it is much different than your average sports car.

Some of the design features and technology will be transferred over to another anticipated Nissan n model, the 370Z Hybrid.

The two-seat Esflow concept is a rear-wheel-drive sports car, that promises its only emissions will be some why-so-serious smiles. A pair of electric motors sits above the rear wheels. The powertrain for the Nissan Esflow consist of two electric motors which are positioned above the rear wheels and a low mounted laminated lithium-ion battery pack for better weight distribution.

The speed from 0-62 mph in less than five seconds. Provided you’re not constantly launching the car in this manner, a lithium-ion battery pack can reportedly deliver up to 144 miles of range on a single charge. This centralizes the mass of the car, and thus its rotation point, close to the driver’s hips. These cleverly positioned batteries enable the car to travel over 240km on one charge.

Nissan bills the Esflow as a concept, but we’re betting some of the ideas incorporated into the car work their way into future production vehicles.

Revealed in Detroit and slated to go on sale in the US sometime in 2012, the Ford C-MAX Energi will be the automaker's first-ever production plug-in hybrid model.

Revealed in Detroit and slated to go on sale in the US sometime in 2012, the Ford C-MAX Energi will be the automaker’s first-ever production plug-in hybrid model.

Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid and C-MAX Hybrid are based on the new Ford C-MAX five-passenger multi-activity vehicle, and each will offer high mileage and low emissions as well as distinctive body design and a flexible interior. The plug-in hybrid and third-generation full hybrid leverage Ford’s global C-car platform, acclaimed powersplit architecture, next-generation driver information features and advanced lithium-ion battery systems.

Both the C-MAX Energi and C-MAX Hybrid models will be built alongside the all-new 2012 Ford Focus and Focus Electric at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Mich. The plant’s production is powered in part by one of the largest solar energy generator systems in the state. The C-MAX Energi and C-MAX Hybrid vehicles sold in Europe in 2013 will be built at Ford’s plant in Valencia, Spain, starting in 2013.

Power for the new Ford C-MAX Energi will come from a high-efficiency 2.0-four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine paired with an electric motor energized by a new, high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack that’s significantly smaller and lighter than the nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) unit found in the current Fusion Hybrid.

As it does in the current Fusion Hybrid, Ford’s powersplit hybrid architecture allows the Energi’s engine to operate independently from the motor and either charge the battery, provide driving force or deliver a combination of both. While there’s no word yet on its EV-only range, Ford says the C-MAX Energi’s “right-sized” battery pack can be fully recharged overnight using a standard 110-120V home outlet.

Like the new 2012 Focus Electric, the 2013 C-MAX Energi will offer its owner a full array of advanced control and connectivity features — both on-board and remote — courtesy of dedicated versions of the MyFord Touch and MyFord Mobile systems. Its custom-programmable MyFord Touch displays help a driver manage and track everything from overall efficiency/economy and battery charge status to the electric demand requirements made by its various ancillary systems.A “Brake Coach” feature even advises on how to make best use of the Energi’s regenerative ABS disc stoppers.Borrowing another page from the Fusion Hybrid, the Energi also has a Smart Gauge with Eco-Assist display that shows long-term fuel efficiency, either in a conventional graphic or as a vine that gains or loses leaves.

Teaming the MyFord Mobile app with a smartphone or web-device gives drivers access to an equally impressive set of remotely controlled actions, from monitoring the charging process and locking/unlocking the doors to receiving various notifications and downloading specific data sets for analysis. Also in the mix will be the Microsoft-powered Value Charging feature that can optimize scheduling of the recharging process to help minimize cost.

The all-electric powertrain and single-speed transmission provide immediate responsiveness and smooth acceleration when the driver pushes down the accelerator, up to a top speed of 84 mph (136 kph).

Among the standard features on the Focus Electric are electronic traction control, six airbags, hands-free telephone connectivity, pushbutton start, 17-inch alloy wheels, Sony audio system with CD and MP3 player, Sirius satellite radio with Travel Link and voice-activated navigation.

Both the gasoline and electric versions of the 2012 Focus for North America will be assembled at Ford’s Wayne plant in Michigan.”Ford Focus Electric is the culmination of years of research and development,” said Kuzak.”More importantly, it’s the start of an exciting new era for Ford and our customers.”

Ford Motor Company’s C-Max, a compact seven-passenger people mover based on the Focus and designed in Europe, will make its North American debut in early January at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.

The C-Max will be the first vehicle in North America to offer Ford’s 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, a turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder gasoline unit that provides the output of much larger conventional engines, with significantly better fuel economy. The Ford C-MAX base engine is a proven 2.5-liter iVCT I-4, optimized for small crossover application with plenty of low-end torque. Both engines are mated to Ford’s 6F35 automatic six-speed transmission with a gear ratio span allowing for responsive acceleration from rest yet fuel efficiency for around-town driving and steady cruising at speed.

The new model will solidify its appeal to customers that value comfortable accommodation, a high seating position, versatility and a “smart-sized” package. At 178 inches long, the C-Max is about the same length as a 2012 Focus sedan, with standard seating for five, plus a third row with two smaller seats.

Smart technology for safety and practicality.Among these new technologies are a host of features that will add convenience and luxury for customers and their families.Key offerings include:hands-free rear liftgate, active park assist, speed limiter, panoramic roof,HD Radio?,rear view camera, intelligent Access with push-button start, heated sideview mirrors with integrated puddle lamps.

In addition, Ford C-MAX offers popular Ford technologies and features, such as:easy Fuel? (capless fuel filler),Sony? Audio System, ambient lighting,dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, sirius? Satellite Radio, front and rear parking aid sensors,Navigation System.

Ford C-MAX offers drivers and families a full complement of standard safety features, including:AdvanceTrac? with RSC? (Roll Stability Control?) with curve control, dual front and side airbags with smart occupant sensor,first-, second- and third-row Safety Canopy? side-curtain airbags,Tire Pressure Monitoring System, driver and passenger-side blind spot mirrors, strong body architecture with extensive use of high-strength steels.

The new C-MAX is part of Ford Motor Company’s global small vehicle strategy that will deliver at least 10 vehicles – and 2 million vehicles annually – from a single C-vehicle platform by 2012.No word yet on pricing, but expect the compact C-Max to retail for nearly as much as a conventional minivan.

Ecotricity is British electric supercar manufacturer, recently Ecotricity launched the world first wind car ‘Nemesis’.

The Ecotricity Nemesis is the result of nearly two years’ hard work by an ‘A-team’ of ex-motorsport engineers, with the brief from Ecotricity founder and MD Dale Vince to “blow the socks off Jeremy Clarkson and smash the stereotype of electric cars”.

The result is awesome: faster than a V12 Ferrari, 0-100mph in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 170mph. All powered entirely from the wind. Or to be more precise by green electricity produced by Ecotricity’s windmills, delivered by the grid.

The ultimate in sustainability – a car that’s fast, great to look at and fabulous to drive – all with zero emissions. Just one small part of Ecotricity’s big vision for a Green Britain.

MMC's next generation electric vehicle project: the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, whose Euro-spec. version (left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive is officially unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show).

Previewed as concept carat the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show, then launched in Japan in January 2006, recipient of many an award and well received by media and customers alike, the innovative A-Segment “i” has been selected as the platform for MMC’s next generation electric vehicle project: the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, whose Euro-spec. version (left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive is officially unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show).

Mitsubishi i-MiEV uses a high-efficiency compact and lightweight permanent magnet synchronous electric motor specially developed for the vehicle. This unit generates maximum torque from low engine speeds (180 Nm – 0 to 2,000 rpm) to deliver powerful response (66.6ps/49 kW) and a seamless driving experience.

“MiEV OS” gathers data and information from all the major EV components to provide integrated management of the car’s performance. This advanced management system constantly monitors battery status and the energy recovered from the regenerative brakes while regulating output to ensure smooth and powerful acceleration from a full stop. As a result the system optimizes and minimizes energy consumption to deliver the most appropriate actual on-road performance.

Mitsubishi Motors plans to set the price (car + traction batteries) of the European-spec i-MiEV to around €33,000 – €35,000 (or equivalent) so that the final cost to the customer after government incentives (where applicable) remains under €30,000 (or equivalent) in a majority of the countries it is to be sold in.

The official introduces the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-CELL as its second electric car built in series-production conditions, with following the B-Class F-CELL fuel-cell car,Following the B-Class F-CELL fuel-cell car, The five-seater with battery-powered electric drive meets all the requirements for a family car for everyday use.

The electric drive of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-CELL is a permanent-field synchronous unit developing a peak output of 70 kW (95 hp), a continuous power rating of 50 kW (68 hp) and a high maximum torque of 290 Nm, as expected for an electric drive, available right from the first revolution. This makes the A-Class E-CELL an outstandingly assured and dynamic performer on the road, taking just 5.5 seconds to accelerate from zero to 60 km/h. A kick-down function is used to deliver maximum acceleration, according to the current charge level and battery temperature. Maximum speed is electronically set at 150 km/h.

The energy storage units are two high-performance lithium-ion batteries based on high-voltage technology. The advantages of lithium-ion batteries include their compact dimensions and significantly higher efficiency in comparison with nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries. They offer 30 percent more energy density than NiMH technology, and 50 percent more power density. Other benefits include high charging efficiency and a long service life. The combined energy capacity of the two lithium-ion batteries is a total of 36 kWh. With fully charged batteries, the Mercedes A-Class E-CELL has a range of over 200 kilometres (NEDC).

The batteries of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-CELL can be either replenished at public charging points or plugged into an ordinary household power socket. A range of charging options are available, including single-phase 230-volt sockets, three-phase sockets in a household wall-box, and public recharging points. Using a single-phase 230-volt network, it takes around eight hours’ charging time to accumulate the energy required for a range of 100 km (NEDC). This time is reduced to just three hours in the case of charging from a wall-box or at a roadside recharging point.

The new A-Class E-CELL also has plenty to offer in terms of Mercedes-quality equipment. Standard highlights in the premium quality “AVANTGARDE” version of this innovative electric car include bi-xenon headlamps, COMAND APS, an active park assist for automatic parking and the THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system. A special additional function is the ability to preset the interior climate during charging, i.e. raising or lowering the compartment temperature according to the weather conditions. The car also has a comprehensive range of safety features, including rear window bags and sidebags, and sophisticated seating and lighting packages.

Mercedes-Benz applies the same high safety standards in the A-Class E-CELL as in all its other series-produced vehicles. The electric drive system has demonstrated readiness for series production in extensive practical testing programs. Key components have also been proven in Mercedes-Benz fuel-cell vehicles, for example, allowing Mercedes engineers to draw on the experience gained from more than 4.5 million test kilometres in everyday use. The integrated safety concept reflects the specific characteristics of the vehicle’s innovative drive system. The lithium-ion batteries and high-voltage system of the A-Class E-CELL are protected with a comprehensive safety concept.

2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is making its big debut in the Big Apple. The MKZ Hybrid will be Lincoln’s first hybrid when it hits showrooms this fall.

2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is equiped a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle I-4 hybrid engine that works in concert with an electric motor to produce 191 net horsepower — is unchanged from the Fusion version.

Another feature specific to the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is its standard Bridge of Weir leather seats. The Scottish luxury leather is unembossed. In addition to Bluetooth phone, audible text and MP3 player capabilities, Lincoln customers also can access Vehicle Health Report and 911 Assist.

Personal Safety System This Lincoln-exclusive suite of seven protection technologies work together as a system to help protect vehicle occupants. The system includes dual-stage front airbags and an occupant classification system to sense whether the passenger seat is occupied. It tailors – or suppresses – airbag deployment to help provide an appropriate level of protection. It also features the Ford Belt-Minder system to remind front seat occupants to buckle up.

At a little more than $35,000, the 2011 Lincoln MKZ sedan won’t be cheap, but the decision by Ford to match the prices of the two styles could lead competitors to follow suit with future models.

2011 Honda CR-Z is fitted with a 3-Mode Drive System. The prices starting below $20,000 and topping out just above $23,000 with a CVT and navigation.

2011 Honda CR-Z is fitted with a 3-Mode Drive System. The prices starting below $20,000 and topping out just above $23,000 with a CVT and navigation.

This unique feature allows the driver to choose between three driving modes. which alter the responses of the throttle, steering, climate control and the level of assistance provided by the IMA syst.

The 2011 Honda CR-Z’s exterior is nowhere near as taut and tight as that of the concept Honda revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, which sent the blogosphere into a frenzy of anticipation: Was Honda bringing back the CR-X? While the production CR-Z lacks some of the muscularity of the concept, it still looks like nothing else on the road; that large, imposing grille and upslanting headlights start a design motif that finishes with a bold swish for a C-pillar and a sculptured rear deck.

Many readers will remember the wedge-shaped CR-X of the early 80s and see some strategic resemblances. But as project leader Norio Tomobe pointed out at our drive session: “We were not aiming for a modern day CR-X. We wanted to create a totally new type of hybrid sports coupe that would take us into a more discerning and environmentally-conscious 21st century. The fact that’s it’s a hybrid just adds another intriguing dimension to the sporty mix. If it reminds you of the CR-X then that’s purely coincidental.”

Built on a slightly shorter, but wider, Insight platform, the CR-Z’s wheelbase has been clipped 4.5 in compared with the Insight. It’s also 1.2 in lower, and 97 lbs lighter. It seems much more low-slung when you slip into the driver’s seat, because the H-point is closer to the floor. There’s plenty of headroom for driver’s up to 6 ft 5 in, but forget the rear seats, which would struggle to accommodate a 12 year old. Flatten the rear seats and you create 14.1 cubic feet of luggage space, enough for a couple of suitcases, or two golf bags.

At first look, interior trim and quality seems about one and a half levels above that of the Insight’s, and the instrumentation boasts more design flair. The CR-Z’s dash is well set out, superbly illuminated and intuitive.

Citroen DS4 is based on the C3 supermini, the DS4 features a more extravagantly designed exterior than the C4 which underpins it, and features a 5-door configuration . It delivers on the style promised by the DS High Rider concept seen.

Citroen DS4 is designed to be a high-riding crossover, the measures is 4.27 metres long, 1.81 metres wide and 1.53 metres high, making it shorter, wider and 10cm taller than the regular C4 and a little bigger than the MINI Countryman.

Citroen DS4’s cabin exudes power, dynamism and refinement. The driving position is enveloping, with chrome-surround dials focused directly towards the driver’s eye-line. The characterful, sculptured dashboard also uses high quality materials for a superior tactile feel.

Citroen DS4’s cabin is dominated by the large panoramic windscreen that extends backwards into the roofline. Offering up to 45° of upward vision, the panoramic glazed area combines with Citroen DS4’s slightly raised stance, to provide optimised visibility for the driver, with a bright yet intimate, airy cabin environment for passengers. DS4 is available with a choice of five leather combinations, including two-tone options. Range-topping models are also equipped with high quality leather on the dashboard and door panels – complete with a ‘Bracelet’ design on the seats, evoking the links of a watch strap.

For an added touch of luxury, there is chrome detailing on the air vent surrounds, instrument cluster, gear lever and parts of the central console. Aluminium pedals, embossed leather door handles and ambient lighting are further evidence of Citroen DS4’s attention to premium detail.

The Citroen DS4 will comes available with the three petrol engines and two diesels. The petrol options are a 120 HP 1.6-litre VTi, a 155 HP 1.6-litre THP, and a 200 HP 1.6-litre THP. The two diesels are 3-HDI units with outputs rated at 110 and 160 HP. The Citroen DS4 will be equipped with a Stop & Start system, a second-generation reversible alternator and an e-booster function. This means that the Citroen DS4 is able to restarts its engine in 0.4 seconds. also for better efficiency, the Citroen DS4 is equipped with an electronically controlled.

Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 is based on the Prologue HYbrid4 Concept, first seen at last year’s Paris Motor Show. It is the world’s first hybrid production car with a diesel engine under the bonnet.

Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 benefits from the combined power of the HDi diesel engine, It has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel rated at 163 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque in front, and an electric motor rated at 37 hp and 148 lb-ft in the rear. Combined output is 200 hp, and combined torque is 369 lb-ft.

The diesel engine is connected to a six-speed automated manual gearbox. The maximum combined power output is 200 bhp, 163 bhp from the 2.0 liter HDi FAP diesel engine and 37 bhp from the electric motor. A maximum torque of 500 Nm is available, split with 300Nm at the front from the HDi diesel engine and 200 Nm at the rear generated by the electric motor.

When the battery has sufficient charge, the electric motor alone can propel the 3008 at lower speeds or provide on-demand all-wheel drive. The rear-mounted motor also provides regenerative braking to charge the battery. The combined output of the two powerplants comes in at 200 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque.

Peugeot has just launched its 3008 crossover, mixing the qualities of a hatchback and an SUV. It’s a genre pioneered by the Nissan Qashqai, with Skoda also getting in on the act with the imminent arrival of its new Yeti. Unlike its two rivals, however, the 3008 isn’t available with four-wheel drive: a clever, off-road-optimised, traction-control system has to do.

This will change in 18 months’ time. But when it arrives, the all-wheel-drive 3008 will be no ordinary 4×4: it will be the production version of Peugeot’s Prologue HYbrid 4, as revealed at the Paris Motor Show last year, featuring a 2.0-litre, 163bhp turbodiesel in the nose and a 37bhp electric motor between the rear wheels.

That doesn’t sound like much electric horsepower. That doesn’t matter: what you really want for acceleration is torque – and electric motors have plenty of that. In this case there’s 148lb-ft on tap, which, when added to the 221lb-ft from the diesel engine, gives you have a potential 369lb-ft. And yes, in this hybrid (unlike, say, a petrol-fuelled Lexus RX 450h) the point at which the two power units’ torque curves cross happens to be at peak torque for both.

That means the HYbrid 4 really will give a 369lb-ft burst of thrust from low engine speeds, making it a potentially rapid machine. And here’s the best bit: all that torque, and a combined 200bhp, comes with a CO2 figure on the official test cycle of just 109g/km. In no other production car can so much power be had for so little CO2 output and a combined-cycle fuel consumption of 68.9mpg.

This concept is designed by Mexican designer Ivan Vela, it was drawn inspiration from feathers to create a feather-light human-powered electric-assist racing vehicle for the TOUR competition. So it seeks to spread sustainable culture through electrical-assisted pedal mechanism.

The vehicle carries accumulators to store kinetic energy generated while pedaling to make it through the race. The vehicle features a big sprocket measuring 40cm in diameter, enabling the vehicle to run at speeds in excess of 70kph. The single-seater vehicle comfortably seats the driver inside a cockpit. Moreover, the carving-type steering betters the riding experience.

This vehicle is RX00047 racing concept car. it is a futuristic single-seater sportscar inspired by the racing cars of the 1930s.

The RX00047 conceptfeatures a single-seater layout, with open-wheels and exposed suspension arms. The long front-engine compartment, the relatively narrow tires and the color scheme offer a visual reminescence of the racetrack-cars of the past, in particular of the Auto Unions.

RX00047 concept is equipped with a highly powerful powerplant using hydrogen fuel cell which in turn determines the presence of a huge engine compartment. Use of hydrogen fuel cell also makes this car an ideal choice for the environmentalists who are crazy about speed but couldn’t find a vehicle that fits well in both. Nevertheless, this vehicle is all about freedom and pleasure of driving and speed, sans restrictions.

This concept is named Squalus, and it a zero-emission concept car designed by Arturo Arino, who is a talented designer from Mexico. The vehicle represents a combination of luxury and green features.

Arino’s car includes four in-wheel electric motors. The all-electric vehicle features four electric in-wheel motors providing the necessary propulsion. The Squalus generates power from the spinning motion of the wheels. If the electric engines stop working the car turns on a hydrogen engine.

This green car features a big windshield equipped with see-through solar cells that generate power on the move. The windshield can also change its darkness, depending on the amount of light hitting it.

The Aptera 2E is one of the most expected cars in history, the Aptera is a futuristic-looking car, aptera motors has been working on the vehicle for many years, and setbacks have pushed the release date back to some time this year. In case you don’t know about it. the official confirm that be released before 2012, and the price is fairly from the mid-$20,000s to mid-$40,000s depending on drive-train and other options.

The first person to drive and review Aptera 2E is Jay Leno. The Aptera 2e Series was designed from the ground up, focusing on aerodynamics as one of its main efficiency measures. It (formerly the Aptera Typ-1) is a high-efficiency passenger vehicle, which is two-seat three wheels electric car. It is currently in the final stages of design by Aptera Motors. They are currently accepting pre-orders from California residents.

Aptera Motors claims the Aptera 2e Series accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) in less than 10 seconds with a top speed over 85 mph (137 km/h). Their first vehicle will be the all-electric Aptera 2e (formerly the Typ-1e) , with plans for a follow-on plug-in hybrid Aptera 2h (formerly the Typ-1h). The fuel efficiency of 300 mpg-US (0.78 L/100 km) when plugged in every 120 miles (190 km) would make it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in the world.

The Aptera’s long road to production is no secret. In fact, it was the first subject the company’s CEO, Paul Wilbur, touched on. Funding hasn’t been easy, and Aptera is banking on securing a $184 million loan from the Department of Energy to it help continue its efforts.

Ferrari recently confirmed that a hybrid version of the Ferrari 599 will be debuted at the 2010 Geneva motor show. It means that Ferrari would follow the ecological tendency of all manufacturers around the world. I have write a article about “Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano China Limited Edition “. Now I will introduce it.

Ferrari 599 hybrid concept is a two-seat 599 surper car, which is designed by Pininfarina. It is expected to reduce fuel consumption, powered by a kinetic energy recovery system(KERS). With a KERS in place an electric power boost is also probable. The play-stop system implemented on 599 GTB should reduce significantly the consumption of fuel and the unity emission V12 of this model especially in urban landscape.

Ferrari 599 hybrid concept will use a modified version of the Kinetic Energy Retrieval System, which is developed by the company’s F1 team, is expected to appear on the hybrid along with regenerative braking. It will be similar to all the other models of his kind and will utilize lithium-ion batteries. Both the electrical engine, and the batteries will be put near rear deck, a pair of small electric motors could be mounted in the 599’s rear transaxle and act as a torque-vectoring system to improve grip, handling and performance. These motors would likely also capture braking energy to store in a lithium-ion battery for future use in boosting performance. And the electrical engine will be coupled of the transmission of 599 GTB. This thing will allow implementation of a regenerating system of the kinetic energy lost usually when braking, which will function in an similar way to the KERS from Formula 1, offering a surplus of power for a short period of time.

Montezemolo also mentioned that the automaker will continue to adapt F1 technology for its street vehicles. Ferrari will also continue to look for ways to improve their cars’ efficiency as part of the board’s plan to make the company more sustainable.

This is world’s thinnest car, its name is Tango, initially designed and built by Commuter Cars. Tango is an ultra-narrow electric sports car, with 102 inches long and only 39 inches wide.

The world’s thinnest car is powered through battery and because of its light weight, it can provide race car levels of performance: speed up from 0 to 60 in just 4 seconds.

They are currently filling the first 10 orders—seven of them for the $150,000 model, which uses lithium batteries (from A123 Systems), and three for the $108,000 model using lead acid batteries. All future cars are “depending on funding” and pre-orders are fully refundable. By the way, the purchase price is for a “mostly assembled” kit, rather than a finished vehicle.

Tango depends on a sturdy cage like that other small car as for safety. Woodbury says the passenger compartment meets specifications for NASCAR racing. It has four times the side protection of a typical SUV, Also like the Smart, the car’s 8-foot, 5-inch length should allow it to be parked nose first to the curb in a street parking spot. But even when fully charged, the vehicle’s range of 40-100 miles will limit your driving to a fairly modest two-way commute.

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is the first plug-in gas/electric vehicle of GM. 2011 Chevrolet Volt is a four-passenger, four-door sedan.

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is the first plug-in gas/electric vehicle of GM. 2011 Chevrolet Volt is a four-passenger, four-door sedan. GM official is scheduled to go into production in late 2010. The Price has not been finalized, The most recent estimate places the price at $40,000, with a $7,500 federal tax rebate available after that price.

It is different from Chevrolet Volt concept, The Volt concept was an immediate hit, but The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is GM’s promise to actually build the futuristic range extending electric car. It will base on GM’s E-Flex platform. The GM E-Flex design team also raised the rear window and deck line to minimize wind turbulence and resulting drag as the air flows over the car. The Volt’s roof and rear hatch incorporate a large expanse of glass for a very open feel.

2010 Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in electric car, it has a 40 mile zero-emission range on all-electric operation. The advanced 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is depleted, the Volt uses a small internal combustion engine-generator as a range extender to add 300 more miles to the Volt’s total driving range. Chevrolet claims a range of 40 miles solely on a fully charged battery and more than 600 miles when the gasoline engine is used. At this point, it is not known what the gas motor will be, but expect it to be a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that will also be capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. Available safety features likely will include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. GM’s latest figures peg the Volt’s 0-60 mph performance time in the 8 to 9 second range, with a top speed of 100 mph. The electric drive unit will deliver 111 kW of power that translates to 150 horsepower, and importantly an impressive 370 lbs-ft of torque. Since electric motors can deliver maximum torque from 0 rpm, overall performance should be quite good.

The interior is both sporty and futuristic, with a driver-configurable liquid crystal instrument display and a seven-inch touch screen information display as standard equipment. Bluetooth phone and music streaming will also be standard equipment, with an optional GPS navigation system offering hard drive storage for maps and digital music.

Citroen C-Cactus concept is not EV status. It is a new hybrid concept car, and it won an award for Most Beautiful Car In Show at Frankfurt.

Citroen C-Cactus concept is 4.2 metres long and 1.8 meters wide with a wide range of equipment including air conditioning with automatic temperature control, a high-quality audio system, a panoramic glass sunroof, cruise control and a speed limiter.

Inside, It’s the lack of a dashboard. The dashboard controls are instead mounted onto the center console or steering wheel hub, which results in a significant reduction in weight and costs.

Citroen C-Cactus concept is equiped with a hybrid Diesel engine, there is a lot more to the Cactus than meets the eye. Firstly the fuel economy, weighing just 1,306 kg, the C-Cactus uses an incredibly low 3.4 litres of fuel per 100 km with a CO2 emission of 78 g/km, beating the Toyota Prius on both accounts. With a top speed of 70 mph and a range of 100 miles, there is nothing special about the Cactus’s EV qualifications. It’s not the fact that the Cactus could also come as a hybrid model either.

C-CACTUS – THE GREEN CONCEPT CAR WITH SHARP LOOKS

Making its world debut at Frankfurt, the C-Cactus is an imaginative and ingenious concept eco-friendly concept car brimming with clever thinking and dramatic design, which demonstrates how an extremely environmentally-sensitive design is feasible for a similar price to a conventional car.

It’s radical design is centered on essential values abandonning features that are not essential to comfort and focus instead on technology, styling and equipment that are positive, ecological and valued by users. The Marque’s ambitious aim is to market an ecological hatchback with cheerful, attractive styling, equipped with a hybrid HDi drivetrain and sold at the same price as an entry-level C4.

Low on consumption, like the cactus plant, the diesel hybrid model returns over 80 mpg on the combined cycle helped by an innovative approach to reducing weight and impact on the environment by drastically cutting the number of components used – including even doing away with a conventional dashboard and bonnet.

C-Cactus has a unique personality and style yet the focus was very much on simplicity. The front bumper section, which includes the headlamps and trademark Citroën chevrons, also makes up the lower part of the rear tailgate. The design of the car’s front end consists of just two parts: the fixed bonnet comprising the front wings and a flap giving access to the vehicle maintenance functions.

The spacious and light cabin, with its panoramic glass sunroof and large windscreen, is optimised by the simplicity and effectiveness of the interior design. The front seats comprise just two parts: a comfortable, moulded, integral-skin foam part for the seat and a solid monoblock frame to hold the former in place and fix it to the floor rails.

Maximising the car’s green credentials, the C-Cactus uses a significant number of recycled or recyclable materials. The windscreen, windows and tyres are all recyclable, as are the steel door panels, that are unpainted but which have been treated for corrosion. The interior materials also reflect the innovative ecological direction of the C-Cactus’ design. Environmentally-friendly cork and felt are used for many parts and the patterned floor uses recycled leather taken from cut-offs.

The BMW released a Hybrid X6, The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is the first full hybrid of BMW. According to the Official, the price is starting at $88,900.

The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is epuiped with a all-hybrid engine, which BMW claims is the world’s most powerful hybrid. It outputting a combined 480 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque, this a hybrid to be reckoned with. the plain 50i makes 400 horses and 450 lb.-ft. The hybrid makes less horsepower than the X6 M’s 555 hp, but it tops that model’s 500 lb.-ft. of torque. The M version still has the edge on acceleration, though: 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds from a vehicle weighing in at 5,700 lb is definitely astonishing, but does this vehicle live up to its gasoline powered counterparts?Car and Driver magazine had a chance to briefly test drive the all new BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and posted a preview in the February 2010 issue. In short, they are less than thrilled with the hybrid crossover SUV. Continuing reading for the highs and lows garnished from their brief preview drive.

The ActiveHybrid system is a full hybrid system, meaning the car will run on electricity alone up to 60 km/h and the engine will shut down automatically below 60 km/h. At the core of the system is a 407 horsepower twin turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, the same engine that powers the X6 50i. Where things get sophisticated, if not complicated, is in the two-mode active transmission, a unit based on an electric continuously variable transmission (as found in most hybrids), but employing three planetary gear sets and four multiple-plate clutches to provide seven fixed transmission ratios.

Two electric motors are integrated into this transmission, with slightly different power outputs, and operate independently with the mechanical components to maximize efficiency at low speeds and offline performance, as well as high speed driving. It’s like having two transmissions in one car – not that easy to understand and, sorry, not that easy to describe. But suffice to say it operates with the same precise gear changes that one would expect in a BMW.

BYD is the China's biggest battery maker, BYD E6 Electric Car is the new world of electric cars and plug-in hybrids.

BYD is the China’s biggest battery maker, BYD E6 Electric Car is the new world of electric cars and plug-in hybrids.

BYD E6 Electric Car all started with the F6DM plug-in hybrid sedan, followed by the smaller and less expensive F3DM plug-in hybrid compact car. It takes the shape of a crossover, or MPV, and will be built on on the F6′s platform (same as the F6DM, which could be sold in Europe by 2010).

Electric cars (or one of them, at least) is that the battery technology is not really up to the ambitions of car makers. Chevrolet’s Volt (aka Opel Ampera) is a good case in point. Tellingly, a Toyota tecchy referred to the science behind the Chevvy Volt as ‘Vaporware’, and the whole project is founded on the expectation that the technolgy will develop quickly enough to make the car a reality.

So far, all we know is that the E6 will be a 5 seater with an acceleration of 0 to 100 kph of around 10 seconds. Top speed should be top speed of 160 kph (100 mph), and the battery pack, which is located under the rear passenger seats, will be based on BYD’s own lithium-ion iron phosphate technology. Range per charge is expected to be 300 km (186 miles). BYD projected the battery had a life of 2,000 cycles, for a lifetime range of about 600,000 km (373,000 miles). Charging of the battery will take the night with 220V, but the E6 electric car can also take a fast charge that can bring the battery to 80% SOC in about 15 minutes.

Chinese have managed to push battery technology in a different direction. Most batteries currently use lithium ion which is both expensive, rare and not particularly green. BYD have developed battery technology that uses ferrous ion, which is both plentiful and cheap. They are claiming that their technology makes the BYD E6 capable of a 400km range on a full charge, and 200km on a 50%, 10 minute refresh.

BYD are working with the Chinese Government and fleet operators to install a network of recharging stations ahead of the E6 launch at the end of the year. Which is a mammoth task, and one that would be even greater in the UK where we are now incapable (thanks to successive Governments’ blinkered views on power stations) of producing enough electricity for our current needs, but it is achieveable. And a 10 minute wait for 200kms (around 120 miles) of ‘fuel’ is something most could tolerate at their local filling station.

According to the BYD Official BYD E6 Electric Car will start producing the E6 within two years.

Honda debut the CR-Z hybrid sports concept car as its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The CR-Z wil be the next-generation lightweight sports car of Honda Brand.

The Honda CR-Z’s interior follows the design theme of “Hi-tech and Sporty,” achieved by a very futuristic instrument panel. The CR-Z’s gauge cluster can glow in three different colors, depending on which driving mode is activated (Econ, Normal or Sport). Honda also designed the interior to seem very airy and spacious by using mesh material on a simple framework. Overall, the CR-Z’s interior looks similar to that of the Honda Insight. The goal was to create an all-new sporty interior that fuses the liberating feel of airy spaciousness with an advanced interface that brings out the fun of driving. Mesh material on a simple framework construction is used throughout the interior to convey a light, sophisticated image.

Honda CR-Z concept is equipped with Honda’s original gas-electric hybrid system that achieves both clean performance and a high level of torque. Honda says CR-Z stands for ‘Compact Renaissance Zero.’ However Honda explains how they ended up with the CR-Z name, the car is an obvious successor to the popular CRX hatchback of the 1980s and early ’90s.

The Honda CR-Z concept features a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist hybrid technology. Overall output of the system is 122 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. Despite those rather meager figures, the CR-Z achieves just 36/38mpg city-highway in CVT form, with the standard manual transmission dropping those numbers to 31/37. Still, the CR-Z is slightly more efficient than your typical sporty hatchback.

Pricing has yet to be announced but expect more on that front as we near the CR-Z’s launch date later this year.

Hyundai showed its Blue-Will plug-in hybrid (PHEV) concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit for its US debut. It is the first ever plug-in hybrid (PHEV) of Hyundai.

Hyundai showed its Blue-Will plug-in hybrid (PHEV) concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit for its US debut. It is the first ever plug-in hybrid (PHEV) of Hyundai.

Blue-Will serves as a test bed of new ideas that range from roof-mounted solar cells to drive-by-wire steering, lithium polymer batteries and touch-screen controls, and foreshadows future hybrid production vehicles from Hyundai. Blue-Will promises an electric-only driving distance of up to 40 miles on a single charge and a fuel economy rating of up to 106 mpg US (2.2 L/100km). Codenamed HND-4, the Blue-Will is the fourth in a series of innovative concept vehicles to come out of the Namyang Design Center.

The Blue-Will concept is powered by an all-aluminum 152 hp (113 kW) Gasoline Direct Injected (GDI) 1.6-liter engine mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). A 100 kW electric motor is at the heart of Hyundai’s proprietary parallel hybrid drive architecture. The wheels are turned by power coming directly from the gasoline engine, the electric motor, or both together, as conditions demand.

Fuel economy for the Blue-Will in charge sustaining mode (regular hybrid mode) is projected to be 50-55 mpg US (4.7-4.3 L/100km). Hyundai says that vehicle range is 652 miles (1,049 km).

This parallel hybrid drive architecture serves as the foundation for future Hyundai hybrids, starting with the 2011 BlueDrive Sonata hybrid coming later this year in the US. (Earlier post.). For maximum luggage space, the fuel tank is located under the rear seat where it is bundled alongside the lithium polymer battery (cells from LG Chem) that can be recharged using household current.

Hyundai was the first automaker in the world to apply lithium polymer batteries in a mass production vehicle this July, when the Elantra LPI Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) went on sale in Korea. This battery technology will also power Hyundai’s 2011 Sonata BlueDrive hybrid.

The panoramic glass roof integrates dye-sensitized solar cells without impeding visibility. The solar cells provide a trickle charge that helps operate a cabin cooling fan, reducing interior temperatures while the car is parked in the sun.

Energy from hot exhaust gases is recaptured by a thermoelectric generator (TEG) which is fitted into the exhaust manifold. The TEG then converts the heat into electrical energy to help power auxiliary systems. Efficiencies are further improved by low-rolling resistance tires and low-drag brakes, where special attention has been paid to the engineering of the brake pads and calipers.

Toyota unveiled the Toyota FT-CH Concept dedicated hybrid at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The Toyota FT-CH is a concept that would address Toyota’s stated strategy to offer a wider variety of conventional hybrid choices to its customers, the teeny lime green plug-in hybrid in model year 2012, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in 2015 in global markets.

Toyota is hoping to appeal to the “8-bit generation.” This group consists of those who grew up playing ’80s video game systems such as Nintendo. The Toyota FT-CH is 22 inches shorter than the Prius, but less than one inch narrower. It’s designed primarily for city driving, and if built will be priced for young buyers. If it sees production, it will be cheaper than the 2010 Prius, which starts at $22,400.

The FT-CH is styled to reflect the target audience’s style and taste. The interior’s components are simple. The odometer and speedometer have been compressed in a small digital display that sits atop the steering wheel column. Jim Lentz, COO, Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. said that the concepts of its interior design including the electronics and the color palette are fun and stylish. Continued after the jump!

Toyota is displaying the car to see whether there is a potential for this type of vehicle to be sold. Lentz admitted that no engineer has been assigned to the car and that talks of production are still not happening. The vehicle has not been tested with customers and Toyota doesn’t have an engine size in mind for the concept car that could become part of what Toyota has described as the “Prius family.”

Volkswagen L1 Concept is one liter of fuel with the prepared for 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, The European fuel efficiency measure of 1 liter/100 km is equivalent to 235 mpg. Volkswagen L1 Concept is capable of driving 100 kilometers on 1.49 liters of diesel fuel or 158 mpg. It doesn’t quite hit that impressive mark

Power of Volkswagen L1 Concept is supplied by a 0.8-liter diesel engine and electric motor mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The powered Plexiglass canopy shuts silently but the cabin is light and airy and there is no sense of claustrophobia. To avoid the drag of wing mirrors, small television cameras display rear views on each side of the dashboard. A lithium-ion battery supplies electricity, while regenerative braking captures energy when the car is stopping. In spite of its Lilliputian power, lightweight and a remarkable aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.195 means the L1 can achieve a top speed of 99mph, with 0-62mph acceleration in 14.3sec.

To achieve such high levels of efficiency, Volkswagen engineers focused on making the L1 as light and aerodynamic as possible. Carbon fiber skin keeps the body weight to just 273 pounds, while the whole car weighs less than 850 pounds. The L1 takes on a long and narrow shape to slip through the air, seating the two occupants one behind the other and keeping the overall height as low as a Lamborghini Murcielago. Drag has also been reduced by replacing the side mirrors with cameras and enclosing the entire underbody. Volkswagen claims the result is a remarkably low drag coefficient of just 0.195.
