Porsche 918 Spyder concept – plug-in hybrid

Porsche has unveiled Porsche 918 Spyder concep at 2010 Geneva motor show, which is plug-in hybrid super sports car. Porsche has never shown a concept car that it hasn’t put into production.

According to the photos the Porsche 918 Spyder concep is a mid-engined two-seater in the mould of the Porsche Carrera GT – a landmark supercar to showcase Porsche’s plug-in hybrid technology – clearly demonstrates not only the great bandwidth of this new drive technology. which is made up of Porsche’s new Cayenne S Hybrid SUV with parallel full-hybrid drive, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car with electric drive on the front axle and a flywheel mass battery. The highly-innovative Porsche 918 Spyder concept car combines Porsche’s Intelligent Performance philosophy.

The Porsche 918 Spyder concept is powered by powered by both a 500-horsepower V8 and a pair of electric motors (one for each axle) producing an additional 218 hp or 160kW, but the fuel economy is the big question:  its new green machine uses just 3.0 l/100km on the combined cycle, making it more efficient than the Toyota Prius. Emissions are even lower, releasing just 70g/km of CO2. it is able to run on the combined power of petrol and electricity, or via either power source on its own. Four driving modes allow the driver to select between varying combinations of performance and efficiency. In the all-electric E-Drive mode, the 918 Spyder offers a range of 25km. Hybrid mode is described as the best option for day -to-day driving, while Sport Hybrid offers a mix of optimum efficiency with a little extra power. it reaches 100km/h in 3.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 320km/h.

  1. Nice specs and yes,looking to it i remember Porsche Carrera GT supercar.I really want a Porsche but i still need work out on it.

  2. Porsche 918 Spyder really rocks.The chassis is a carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic monocoque. Magnesium and aluminium are extensively used in the construction of the car which helps keep the 918 Spyder’s weight down to 1,490 kilograms.
