Porsche 929 is being planned

Porsche is planning a sports coupe for the future, Porsche could call it the Porsche 929. It is being planned as part of the second-generation Porsche Panamera family. The model is pencilled in for launch after the replacement for the Panamera four-door, scheduled for 2014/15.

The Porsche 928 was originally intended to replace the iconic 911 and over the years was offered with four engine options, all V8s. The new car will follow the same configuration as the old 928 with a front engine-rear wheel drive two-door coupe.

Autocar has learned that the new 928 will be based on the next-generation Panamera. The current Panamera is set for a replacement in 2014/15 and the 928 sports GT will be based on the short-chassis version of the upcoming Panamera. Now, the 928 will also share much of its underpinnings with the new Panamera. Porsche could call the new car the 929 and will make two
variants of it, coupe and soft top.

The folks at Autocar also report that no new body styles are planned for the current generation Panamera and that the lang wheelbase version that is been talked about off late will be a part of the next generation of the Panamera family only.

Porsche is known to be planning a whole new model range in the coming years. The latest additions being the new 911 and the Cayman and Boxster models. Later, Porsche also has the Cajun crossover lined-up which will be a smaller version of the Cayenne.

A few days back, Porsche also revealed plans of a new supercar that the company is pondering. The new supercar is set to fill the gap between the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and the 918 Spyder Hybrid supercar. We also reported about a convertible version of the Panamera being planned and the 928 convertible could the one, then. A long wheelbase version of the Panamera is also on cards.
