Beijing 2010: Hongqi HQE goverment works

Hongqi HQE (红旗HQE) is a expensive limousine producted by China Car manufacture FAW. It was debuted in China’s extravagant 60th anniversary parade in 2009. I had writen “2009 Hot Presidential Vehicle List in the world” about this vehicle.

Back in the 1950s, FAW started off building a localized version of the standard Soviet parade car, and over the past half century, they have evolved. FAW has also built licensed stretched sedans based on Audi and Lincoln vehicles. China first Works is set to produce a Rolls Royce Phantom based “civilian” adaptation in limited runs similar to the one President Hu rode in, while reviewing the thousands of Chinese robotic troops.

Here at the Beijing Motor Show, FAW is showing off a new limo that is a modern interpretation those original models from the 1950s, but with a greenhouse and door array that looks more like a contemporary Rolls-Royce Phantom. We couldn’t find any press materials written in English, but we have reason to believe that this machine is powered by a V12 engine that looks suspiciously like the one from the BMW 7 Series V12 of the late-1980s.

Despite being a “civilian” version as the First Automobile Works, clearly, with a staggering price tag of ¥8 million (RM 4 million), this ride was not created with peasants like us in mind. Even with its ridiculous price tag(Rolls Royce Phantom costing half its price), First Automobile Works is confident of selling a number of these limousines in China with the support of the ever increasing population of billionaires in China.

Zotye 2008EV is the first All-electric car for sale in China

Zotye 2008EV is a production of Zotye (Zhejiang Zotye Auto Co.), which is the fast-growing Chinese manufacturerZotye is also working on a fast recharge system for home use. and the price will be around $16,000 USD.

Zotye 2008EV base on the Zotye SUV platform, based on integration of automotive electric patented technology. The Zotye 2008 EV is equiped with all electric engine with density lithium-ion power battery, which hits Maximum power is 27KW, so it reach a top speed of 110 km/h. 0-60MPH is only 12 seconds. full electric driving up to 300 kilometers, 100 kilometers of electricity consumption is only 12 degrees, compared with the same level of gasoline saved at least 4 / 5, the use of the cost.

The 100KM driving is only spent 1$ USD.

MG Rover MG6 Concept

The MG6 Concept Based off the Roewe 550, its first official debut at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show. it will feature bold styling and a four-door coupe appearance despite the fact that it is a five-door hatchback. Among the key design aspects is an angular front-end with large air intakes, aggressive side sills, and a striking character line which runs from the front headlights to the rear taillights.

Although the company failed to provide a press release offering details on the concept, it seems likely that the MG6 will be powered by the turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine from the Roewe 550. The only thing that is clear is the fact that production is probably a top priority, considering that MG’s lineup only consists of the TF roadster.

With all the commotion of this week’s New York Auto Show, it’s easy to forget that April is also the month of the Shanghai Auto Show. One of the local highlights planned for the upcoming event has just been previewed, the MG6 grand tourer concept.

While most Chinese carmakers have so far concentrated on small, economical cars, a stylish grand tourer may be enough to get Western markets excited about Chinese built cars, which are improving in quality and design exponentially.

Not much is known about the new concept but the images depict a svelte four-door coupe, with a fastback profile and a very aggressive look.

All the MG models currently on sale, either in China or some parts of Europe, have been based on older MG and Rover designs. This appears to be the first uniquely designed vehicle to wear the MG badge in more than a decade and it’s a sign that there may be some promising things to come from the restored brand. More details should be revealed closer to the concept’s unveiling towards the end of the month.

BYD E6 Electric Car With All-New Battery Technology

BYD is the China’s biggest battery maker, BYD E6 Electric Car is the new world of electric cars and plug-in hybrids.

BYD E6 Electric Car all started with the F6DM plug-in hybrid sedan, followed by the smaller and less expensive F3DM plug-in hybrid compact car. It takes the shape of a crossover, or MPV, and will be built on on the F6′s platform (same as the F6DM, which could be sold in Europe by 2010).

Electric cars (or one of them, at least) is that the battery technology is not really up to the ambitions of car makers. Chevrolet’s Volt (aka Opel Ampera) is a good case in point. Tellingly, a Toyota tecchy referred to the science behind the Chevvy Volt as ‘Vaporware’, and the whole project is founded on the expectation that the technolgy will develop quickly enough to make the car a reality.

So far, all we know is that the E6 will be a 5 seater with an acceleration of 0 to 100 kph of around 10 seconds. Top speed should be top speed of 160 kph (100 mph), and the battery pack, which is located under the rear passenger seats, will be based on BYD’s own lithium-ion iron phosphate technology. Range per charge is expected to be 300 km (186 miles). BYD projected the battery had a life of 2,000 cycles, for a lifetime range of about 600,000 km (373,000 miles). Charging of the battery will take the night with 220V, but the E6 electric car can also take a fast charge that can bring the battery to 80% SOC in about 15 minutes.

Chinese have managed to push battery technology in a different direction. Most batteries currently use lithium ion which is both expensive, rare and not particularly green. BYD have developed battery technology that uses ferrous ion, which is both plentiful and cheap. They are claiming that their technology makes the BYD E6 capable of a 400km range on a full charge, and 200km on a 50%, 10 minute refresh.

BYD are working with the Chinese Government and fleet operators to install a network of recharging stations ahead of the E6 launch at the end of the year. Which is a mammoth task, and one that would be even greater in the UK where we are now incapable (thanks to successive Governments’ blinkered views on power stations) of producing enough electricity for our current needs, but it is achieveable. And a 10 minute wait for 200kms (around 120 miles) of ‘fuel’ is something most could tolerate at their local filling station.

According to the BYD Official BYD E6 Electric Car will start producing the E6 within two years.
