The four-passenger two-doors Volkswagen New Compact Concept Coupe has been debuted at 2010 Detroit auto show. It is a hybrid car will not only focus on fuel economy,  With a combined number of 45 miles per gallon, but similar to the brand’s other cars, will also be sporty and fun to drive.

Volkswagen says the car will be positioned between the Passat CC and the GTI. To keep the sporty nature of the GTI, It is a parallel hybrid that can run on either a combination of gas-engine and electric power or electric power only. The hybrid engine employs a 147-horsepower 1.4-liter TSI engine and 20-kilowatt electric motor. This combination enables the New Compact Coupe to achieve 45 mpg and do 0 to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds when both gas engine and electric motor are engaged. Both are mated to VW’s new 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox. The car can be driven on electric power only. When braking, the electric motor spins backwards and charges the battery.

Volkswagen chose to use a modern lithium-ion battery in the NCC. The company packaged the 1.1-kWh battery at the rear of the vehicle. Although the NCC can be propelled by electricity alone at low speeds, the small battery size means that it won’t get too far on electricity alone. The electric motor can also act as a generator to recapture braking energy, and both motors can disengage themselves during coasting to minimize friction and maintain as much speed as possible.

Interior of the car, the driver and passengers are greeted by a two-tone contrasting interior. The seats are covered in a light “Berry White” colored leather with matching door panels and lower center console. The remainder of the interior is done in a darker “Grigio Quartz” color. Volkswagen also says the NCC will have the most interior room in its class and the car can handle a weekend for four with ease. As with the CC, the center console is carried all the way to the rear seats.
